In a few short days, our family is going to grow by one and Nick and I will be an Auntie and Uncle again! Nick’s brother and his wife are expecting – soon! – and we are incredibly excited for the two of them Not only is this their first child, but it will be the first grandchild on their side of the family!

A few weeks ago, I shot their maternity session and I really loved it. I loved creating these personal images for them to remember this special time in their lives by. It was a big step for me to shoot because before this session, I didn’t really know how I wanted to approach the idea of maternity photos. In the weeks leading up to the session, Trione and I discussed what was important to her and it very quickly became clear on the direction I needed to take with this shoot. The answer: make it personal and not trendy.

We were originally going to have their session at Hayward Lake, which is a spot they like to go with their dogs. However, the days-upon-days of rain made this almost impossible, so I decided that using their home was a perfect spot. It’s familiar and personal, warm and inviting, and it’s a great start to the memories that will be made in years to come. We started the session off slow, took our time and even had a snack break!

Their dogs, Rolen and Bella, love them to pieces! They followed them around everywhere and made themselves at home anywhere they could!

I also brought along my Rolleicord that day. I was nervous using it because I had only ever used it once – and it was close to 20 years ago! I took my time with it, I was patient and trusted my abilities as a photographer. The waiting time to get the negatives back was excruciating! I had even forgotten what shots I took! It was definitely worth the wait, because after seeing the results from it, I will be using it a lot more The evening that I went to deliver Trione & Pat their images, I said to Nick, “If these were the only images I took that day, I would be totally and 100% satisfied with them.”

We can’t wait to meet our new nephew and luckily we won’t have to wait much longer!

Day 6 – Jen & Jordy’s Day After Session

Jen & Jordy got married back in July, but they also decided to do a Day After Session (which we shot in October). A Day After Session is a really great reason to get dressed up again and it allows you to relax and not feel rushed to get back to your reception. Anyways… we started off the Vancouver Convention Centre (which I think is one of our favourite places to shoot) and we had a fantastic time Both Jen & Jordy looked just as fabulous as they did on their wedding day and we ended the session just moments before it started to rain! That’s a win-win situation!

Carly & Bryan – Granville Island Couple’s Session

Please say hi to Carly and Bryan. They called upon us to take some updated photos while they were in town for Easter (they’re from Edmonton… poor things!) It was windy. It was wet. But it was fun!

Carly and I went to High School together. I haven’t seen her in 12 years, so it was really cool to catch up with her and meet her husband. It’s weird to think that since the last time I saw her we could’ve gone through our entire pre-university schooling all over again.

We met up with them in Granville Island and I’d like to say the weather was PERFECT… except… well, it wasn’t. It was slightly rainy, which is ok, but REALLY windy. We made the best of it, though!

Granville Island has awesome walls. So full of colour!

“Oh, what? Ya, just chillin’ out next to this awesome building in my sweet little cap. ‘Sup?”

No witty comment here…

Bryan is super, man.

There was a lot of this going on that day. Did I mention we were having fun?

We took a short break from the weather and we caught a few shots of them while they were having coffee.

We chose this parking spot by accident…. honest!
