When Theresa started planning Cake Tease’s 2nd Anniversary party, she knew that she wanted to make this celebration about something more than her company. So she planned a silent auction and decided that ALL of the proceeds would go towards the Enspire Foundation. The Enspire Foundation is a non-profit organization run by a group of young adults who have the genuine intent of making a difference in our society. They recognize the value of being empowered through the privilege of being educated, so they set out to create an environment through which the less fortunate can derive the same opportunity. I definitely recommend checking out their website to read more about all of the events and programs that they put on.

She put the word out and the amount of fantastic art pieces and gifts donated for auction was really overwhelming! In addition to the auction, there were tons of goodies to go around! In fact, the second we stepped in the door all we could smell was the sweet scent of fluffy buttercream! The goodies were provided by Cake Tease, Berliosca Cake Boutique and Sweet Tooth Cakery (gluten-free)! They also had a a really great photobooth provided by Facebox Media and DJ services by Allya + Deezel. It was also held in the fabulous Sugar Studios which is really quite ironic since Cake Tease is a company that utilizes A LOT of sugar!

The sign of a great event? When all of the food is gone! The attendance was incredible, the auction was incredible and I must say that Theresa and her crew are incredible! At the end of the night, practically all of the sweet treats were eaten up and it was clear that everyone had a great time! Congrats Cake Tease on a great anniversary party

Day 5 – VOWSA Canada Day Challenge – Sasamat Lake

The Vancouver Open Water Swim Association (VOWSA) puts on a few different races a year and this one was the Canada Swim up at Sasamat Lake in Port Moody (You might remember last year’s Bay Challenge that I blogged about). VOWSA is 100% vounteer run and I must say that even at 6am and before their first coffee, they are a well-oiled team. They set up the tents, prepared the food, sorted out the registration details and got the buoys out on the lake marking the race course all with out the early morning grumbling.

The best part of the event was watching the swimmers cross the finish line! I loved the expressions of relief, joy, happiness, determination and of course: exhaustion!

The race lengths are 1km, 2km and 4km which is pretty incredible! I don’t know if I would ever get out there and swim a race like that myself, but I had a lot of fun and I can’t wait for next year! Vancouver’s 1st Cupcake Challenge!

Last month we shot a small event that turned big. It was Vancouver’s 1st Cupcake Challenge, and it was sweet… literally! Nicole of Nicole Marie Events and Mijune of Follow Me Foodie are the brains behind this awesome event. It featured several local cupcakeries facing off in a battle royale of cupcakes. The entire room was filled the most delicious snack on the planet, and you could smell the sweetness of all the frostings. Yum!

While the crowd was inside enjoying the tasting of several different cupcakes, outside the room there was a judging going on. They were quite serious about their work. If it was me I’d just shove it in my mouth and go “Mmmmm tasty. NEXT!”
