When Theresa started planning Cake Tease’s 2nd Anniversary party, she knew that she wanted to make this celebration about something more than her company. So she planned a silent auction and decided that ALL of the proceeds would go towards the Enspire Foundation. The Enspire Foundation is a non-profit organization run by a group of young adults who have the genuine intent of making a difference in our society. They recognize the value of being empowered through the privilege of being educated, so they set out to create an environment through which the less fortunate can derive the same opportunity. I definitely recommend checking out their website to read more about all of the events and programs that they put on.

She put the word out and the amount of fantastic art pieces and gifts donated for auction was really overwhelming! In addition to the auction, there were tons of goodies to go around! In fact, the second we stepped in the door all we could smell was the sweet scent of fluffy buttercream! The goodies were provided by Cake Tease, Berliosca Cake Boutique and Sweet Tooth Cakery (gluten-free)! They also had a a really great photobooth provided by Facebox Media and DJ services by Allya + Deezel. It was also held in the fabulous Sugar Studios which is really quite ironic since Cake Tease is a company that utilizes A LOT of sugar!

The sign of a great event? When all of the food is gone! The attendance was incredible, the auction was incredible and I must say that Theresa and her crew are incredible! At the end of the night, practically all of the sweet treats were eaten up and it was clear that everyone had a great time! Congrats Cake Tease on a great anniversary party

Gentle Hands Art Auction

I am very proud to be a part of a fantastic group of Canadian photographers who have donated some amazing fine art pieces to the Gentle Hands Art Auction. I would be thrilled if you shared this post with a friend or two The auction will be open from November 28-30, but the preview is open right now to view these beautiful art pieces.

Gentle Hands is located in the heart of Metro Manila, Philippines, and is a child and youth welfare agency on the front lines of rescue & rehabilitation of medical, social and educational needs of at-risk children & youth. The agency cares for children all in various stages of rehabilitation from abuse, neglect and/or poverty related trauma, adoption or reunification.

Cans for Comments – Redux – Now til Dec. 31

Last year fellow photographers Chris+Lynn started something. They called it “Cans for Comments.” Within a few days of starting it there were dozens of photographers all over the world doing the same. This year we’ve decided to do it again.

Basically the way it works is that for every comment you leave on our blog between now and Dec. 15 we will donate one can to our local Food Bank… except this year we’re doing things a little bit different.

You may or may not know that cash is 3 times as valuable to the Food Bank than actual food. For every $1 that is donated they can buy $3 worth of food. With that in mind we’ve decided that instead of donating a can for each comment, we’ll donate $1 for each comment. This way we’re able to feed more hungry families this {insert holiday of your choice here}

I’ll be posting a random photo every day (or 2) so you have something new to comment on too YAY!

Wow… Seriously, I must apologize… no posts in like 20 days when I said we’d post something every day or 2. We just moved at the beginning of the month, and it’s thrown our plans for a bit of a loop, so in light of that we’ve decided to extend cans for comments until the end of December. Please, comment!

VOWSA Bay Challenge

What’s the longest distance that you can swim? Personally for me, I can make it about 2 lengths in the pool before I have to take a breather, however I had the pleasure of doing some photo coverage for some people who can swim a whole lot farther than I can. On Saturday I was volunteering for the Vancouver Open Water Swim Association, or VOWSA for short. It was their annual Bay Challenge, which is a 10km swim across the bay from Lighthouse Park ending up at Kitsilano Beach.

Does this guy look like he has just swam 10km? Not to me! Alan Bell was this year’s winner in the solo category with a time of 2 hours and 41 minutes!

We started off at Sandy Cove in West Vancouver, which is a beautiful secluded little beach. There were 7 teams and 12 solo swimmers.

3…2…1….GO!

After swimming for up to 4.5 hours, the swimmers then run up the beach and through the finish gate. It was a gorgeous day too!

You are probably wondering, what do you win besides the satisfaction of reaching a personal goal…? Well everyone is entered into a draw to win great door prizes from all of their sponsors (including us!), but the winners get their name on the Percy Norman Cup!

Here are some details of the cup. I love the engraved pictures depicting the swim across the Bay.
