On Friday, Deb and I took in our first curling match. It was quite a lot of fun. I think the person who made the decision to have spectators at Curling matches must have had ADD. They have 4 games going at once, and this is perfect for when the game you really came to see is having a boring end. We came specifically to see Canada beat Denmark, and at times there were some boring ends, so we turned our attention to the other games going on and they seemed to have some action going on. The Japan/Great Britain game ended with Japan winning 11-4 after Japan got 5 points in the 9th end to seal the deal. That was cool to see.

Canada’s game, on the other hand, was much tighter. In fact, after 10 ends it was tied up at 4-4. So off to an extra end we went. It was extremely close, but in the end Canada place a stone right on the button to take a point and end the game 5-4. Crowd = wild. Then they announced that Canada won a gold in Men’s Skeleton. Crowd = very wild. It was awesome.

As you probably know by now, Vancouver is the host of the 2010 Winter Olympics right now! It’s half way through and it’s been pretty amazing so far. I’ve never seen Vancouver so busy. It’s a huge cliche, but the air is electric in this town. It’s really cool.

On Tuesday I went to Whistler with a friend of mine to watch the 3rd and 4th runs of the women’s luge. It was so cool to see an olympic event LIVE. A once in a lifetime opportunity, that’s for sure. I’m going to see women’s curling on friday, so that will be a twice in a lifetime opportunity For now, here’s a few photos from the luge.

The Olympic Rings

Well, That about does it for the Luge event I went to. Tomorrow I’m going to see some curling action. It should be awesome. Canada’s undefeated so far, so I’m looking forward to seeing them play! Is that the right word… play? Do you PLAY curling?? Meh, whatever

Edit: I have been corrected. I will be seeing the Canadian women’s curling team WIN.

Our latest E-Session we’d like to tell you about is that of Ali and Simon. We had a lot of fun on this cold winter day (back when winter = cold in this town.) One thing we LOVE is fun. But really, who DOESN’T love fun? I mean, you’d have to be weird not love having fun, right?

We met up with this cute couple at Jean Beaty park in Point Grey. Simon proposed to Ali in this park, so it was a great place to start.

We then moved on to downtown Vancouver and shot a bit around Robson Square. They had started setting up the new zipline for the Olympics, so there were a lot of blue fences up. We still got a lot of great shots in, though.

There’s a red coil-shaped sculpture in Robson Square, and Ali and Simon wanted to do a few fun shots in there. Remember what I said earlier about loving fun stuff? Well, of course we were game

One thing that they had mentioned to us when we first met with them was that they loved the use of off-camera lighting. We shot their engagement session an hour before sunset, so we got to do a lot of off-camera lighting.

Ohhhhhh Caaaaa NaaDaaaaaa!! The Hotel Georgia is under major renovations and right now the entire building is covered in a huge Canadian flag. We decided that it was a great backdrop to use, so here ya go

Lastly, I’ll leave you with this. They wanted to have some fun with jumping shots, so we took a few shots and they turned out excellent So… I guess the theme for this shoot was… fun? ;D

Deb and I were putting together some of our marketing materials for 2010 and had to take some photos of ourselves. We got out our big ringlight and took a bunch of photos… well… here, have a look:

We have known Allison & Cam for several years. Allison is Nick’s best friend Steve’s sister. Steve and his wife Lori (who are also photographers, opening Lori Currie Photography soon) were shooting with us that day and I think we all got some great shots. Their beautiful wedding took place on the Labour Day long weekend and what a crazy day it started out as. It was raining like mad up until about 5 minutes before the ceremony began and stayed dry just up to the time the reception started. It was perfect.

The instant that I saw Allison and her father start to walk down the aisle the tears started falling, not only for the guests, but for me as well! She was absolutely stunning; full of beauty and poise.

Cam is really quite the gentleman!

The great thing about Allison & Cam is that they know how to have a lot of fun, and so do their friends! They all know how to bring out their inner rock star!

Look at all of this fabulousness! The main building of the London Heritage Farm is gorgeous!

One of my favourite shots! I think what I love more than the lighting is her “come hither” stare. Cam, you are a lucky guy!

Their reception site was the East Delta Hall, and Allison made it look like anything but! Not only is she super organized, but she is a design maven! She transformed the hall from a gymnasium into something spectacular. Green apples, candles, mini-lights everywhere, hanging paper lanterns….it was amazing!

Allison & Cam were together 10 years before they got married. A lot happens over the course of ten years of knowing someone and loving them. You grow so much as a couple and really develop a close and intimate relationship, and with these two it’s easy to see how much they complete each other.

We’re shooting their wedding in late June, so watch for a blog post about it sometime in July
