How did you get interested in photography?
I’ve been interested in photography since I was a child. Of course, it wasn’t a serious interest, as playing with toys and video games was far more important. I received my first SLR cameras as a graduation present from my father. They were 2 old Nikon Fs from the early 1960s. I enjoyed playing with these, but at that time it was just a hobby. Some years later, a friend of mine purchased a Digital SLR camera and somehow I got hooked.
What do you enjoy about photography?
I enjoy the freedom and creativity involved with photography. The cliché of “a picture is worth a thousand words” is so true. One photo can mean something to one person, and the complete opposite to someone else. It’s not just the creativity in taking photos that I love, but the creativity in interpreting them as well.
What do you think makes a great photo?
A great photo is whatever makes you go “wow!” Sure, there are technical aspects that make a photo “perfect,” but that doesn’t make them good. If you think a photo is great, then that photo is great.
What do you like to do when you’re not photographing?
Before my venture into photography I worked in IT, so computers and technology are a big part of my life. You could say I’m a big geek. Aside from that though, I love traveling and seeing new things. I also like to just sit around and hang out with my friends. One day I hope to actually buy a Kayak… but I say that every year.
